Volunteer Brian Ammerman, Hansen Reynolds LLC's Firm Administrator, is pictured with Alicia Meraz and Daniella Sanchez, Site Coordinators at La Casa De Esperanza's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (“VITA”) offices. The VITA program is an IRS sponsored initiative offering free tax help to persons with low- to moderate-incomes, persons with disabilities, the elderly and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own federal and state individual income tax returns. Special emphasis is placed on ensuring taxpayers receive eligible stimulus payments, earned income, child, dependent and homestead credits and are aware of the appropriate Cares Act provisions for COVID-related expenses. Despite other VITA sites not opening due to COVID in 2021, Waukesha’s La Casa de Esperanza was able to provide both safe, in-person tax preparation services as well as offer a contactless alternative. The 2020 tax filing season runs through May 17, 2021 at which point the Waukesha VITA site expects to have prepared and filed between 1,800 – 2,000 tax returns for clients.
